Album Description 2009 collection. They call Rex Allen `The Voice of the West' and this is not just a fancy phrase! With echoes of the old frontier, the rhythm of the trail, the music of the cowboy and the corral, this is western music at it's best! The First twelve tracks are taken from the classic Under Western Skies album, a small anthology of western melodies with enriched orchestration by the late Victor Young and his Orchestra. The remaining fourteen tracks are from Mister Cowboy, an album of Americas greatest western songs without which no musical library is complete. Jasmine.

The Best Of The Singing CowboysOctober 13, 2009 Charles D. Thompson(Florenceville,, New Brunswick Canada) For lovers of Western Music there can be no better singer than Rex Allen. This new compilation of two long out of print Rex Allen recordings is superb. Allen had a rich, mellow and dramatic voice that had a range of several octaves and this recording demonstrates all of them to perfection. The recording shows all the meticulous care that Jasmine puts into their products. The sound quality is excellent especially when one remebers that the two LP's that provide the content for this recording are over fifty years old. The first half of the recording is worth the price alone. Allen chose some of the great classic songs of the West, songs that evoke all the images that so many found irresistible as they went to the Theatre to see Roy Rogers, Gene Autry. Jimmy Wakely and Eddie Dean among others. There is a great added attraction here as well in the person and talent of Victor Young and his orchestra. Young was one of the very best movie orchestrators and won many awards for his scores. The second half is also well done but not as evocative as many of the songs have a more country or even hillbilly style. But with Rex Allen singing it almost any song is worth the listening. First rate, reasonably priced, excellent sound and a pure pleasure.
A Timeless MasterpieceAugust 2, 2009 M. Marcinko 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have purchased all that Rex Allen's legacy has available. This CD surpasses all. His truly great voice is as clear as if recorded yesterday. A total of 26 tracks complied from 2 different recording sessions. The first is with orchestra back up which I read gave him a standing ovation when completed. The second part is solo Rex with only his guitar. Hauntingly beautiful. Even if you don't have an interest in Rex Allen, this set is worth having in your collection. Don't hesitate. A country "hats off" and sincere thank you to the producer of this CD.
