I came across him by surprise and LOVE this CD! August 14, 2010 J. Polsgrove (Baja Arizona) Unlike a lot of new fans, I didn't know Ryan from his work on Crazy Heart. I'm a Facebook fan of a "red dirt" group and several people mentioned Ryan as being so awesome. I logged on to amazon and sampled this CD. I really liked what I heard, so for $5.99, who can go wrong, so I downloaded it.
I've been playing Mescalito every damn day since then. If you want a comparison, he's kind of a Steve Earle in his better days kind of singer-songwriter. (Think of Earle's great trilogy -- El Corazon, I Feel Alright and Transcendental Blues, but with less of a rock edge, and you'll get an idea.)
I give this a hearty five stars and my only regret is that it took this long for me to discover Ryan Bingham! If you're reading this and you're not familiar with him, spend the $5.99 for the download. It's worth every penny!

Muchos Gracis for all the great songs and the musicians who have made this one of the best new albums this old man has enjoyed for a while.

Gritty, great lyrics, worth the money. Not your standard homogenized crap you hear on the radio. An excellent piece of work.
Thank You, "Crazy Heart"! June 14, 2010 Russell Docteur (Greenback, TN) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The movie, "Crazy Heart" introduced me to Ryan Bingham. I bought that soundtrack, and played it so much, if it had been an LP it would be very scratchy by now. So then I bought this album. I certainly was not disappointed by it. Bingham is a great songwriter with a great and unique voice to match. I plan to buy anything else he has recorded.
5 stars for Ryan Bingham June 2, 2010 Patrick M. Fowler (Louisville, KY USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
We saw Ryan Bingham on Austin City Limits a few weeks ago. Loved the style of his singing, his somewhat raspy voice, and the idea that he's a story teller. He's right up there with John Prine and Bob Dylan....maybe a cross between. Anyway, for being 27 years young, he's found some devoted fans in Kentucky. His music has nice melodies, and he sings well. He plays several instruments. A very talented musician. We will be looking forward to some new music....Love this CD.
