Does anyone else have a voice this heavenly and skin so pure?? December 22, 2008 Steven I Ramm (Phila, PA USA) When Alison Krauss first joined with Union Station (Ron Block, Dan Tyminski, Barry Bales and the always spectacular Jerry Douglas) she was playing fiddle on nearly all the numbers. Then she had her crossover hit "Baby, Now That I Found You" and the fiddle took a back seat. I still think she's a great instrumentalist, but, for eight of the nine sings here - the lone exception being "Sawing On The Strings" with Tony Rice - it's her beautiful vocals on display. She duets with James Taylor, Brad Paisley (oh to only see them work out on a hot instrumental one day!), and John Waite. This 57 minute program was originally produced for the Great American Country cable network and it's a nice feature that you can play just the music or just the interviews on subsequent viewings. The camera work is sharp and excellent - I do not have an HD set - so you can see Krauss's gorgeous facial features and porcelain-like skin. Warning to those who have an older style square TV screen. This was filmed so the aspect is for wide-screen TVs. There are no black bars and standard aspect TVs will have the sides cut off. This only affects when the musicians are named, but it might be a concern to some. Definitely a winner for Krauss fans and those who want to see some of the best players in modern bluegrass accompany a voice that has no equal. Steve Ramm "Anything Phonographic"
Live From the Tracking Room soars to new heights. December 20, 2008 Joseph H. Hein (Ohio USA) Alison Krauss's voice is a rare gift in a world of mostly mundane, overproduced recordings. On this, her newest DVD, she wrenches so much emotion and honesty from the lyrics of the songs that I found the music spell binding and goose bump raising. The musicians used in the studio are some of the finest in the business, and I found it easy to get entranced with their understated performances as well. The commentary between songs is informative and helps paint a more full picture of each song. In my opinion, this DVD belongs in everyone's library of music, whether a big Krauss fan or not.
What a voice!!! What talent surrounds!!! December 14, 2008 David C. Costa (portland maine usa) this woman's voice is the manifestation of bliss in sonic form...and it is so stunning to see and hear the effortlessness with which she sings...i don't know bluegrass history and legendary players as well as i might, but i am led to believe that sam bush and tony rice are masters...and they certainly prove it here...this sound is remarkable, i was skeptical because i rarely buy dvds that do not have surround sound, but i took a chance with this and was pleased...although it is not especially long, the interviews are nice in that they talk from the heart about alison and her talent, and the dvd as a whole simply and beautifully showcases the abilities of the musical geniuses around her...purchase and enjoy...and beware...because if you are in the least bit sentimental, as i am...you will want the kleenex close at hand for the title track...
Timeless December 12, 2008 Sean Matthew Fowler Alison and all of the great musicians she brings together are a wonder. Everything I look for in music she offers. This DVD is a marvel and recommend it to anyone.
Brad Paisley Said It All December 10, 2008 Carl (Acton, MA United States) This is really not an AKUS project, but the band is a big part of it. The other musicians are unbelievable and you can just see the joy in their faces as they play with each other. But Brad Paisley said it all when he something to the effect that when he gets to Heaven and if the Angels don't sing like Alison Krauss he wants to come back. Alison Krauss is just a treasure and this DVD shows exactly why. Her song selection consists of many that are both sad, but in a way uplifting. Her duets are just perfect matches of song and performers. I recently lost a dear pet and when I got home from the Vet I immediately put on this DVD. It was perfect for the way I felt. And just when I was feeling really bad she does "Sawing On The Strings". It was perfect for my mood. There is a song she does (not on this program) as a duet with Bonnie Raitt called "You". I think you can download it from the mp3 section under Bonnie Raitt and it's also on You Tube. Add Alison's voice and fiddle to Bonnie Raitt's voice and slide guitar and you have another treasure in your possession.
